ARE YOU READY TO JOIN OFFICAL EVANGELISM MARCH IN TURKEY?
Why Towards 3000?
In the days ahead of us in which the whole world is preparing to celebrate
the birth of Jesus Christ, a big part of religious tourism for the year 2000
will be given to Israel, a center of Christianity, and our neighbor Greece.
Despite the importance of the New Testament, little is known about The Holy
Lands of Anatolia, because for various reasons they have not been advertised
to the Christian community. Contrary to what is known, The Holy Land of
Anatolia:
1 - Where the name "Christian" was first used (Antioch),
2 - St. Luke's birthplace (Antioch),
3 - St. Paul's birthplace (Tarsus),
4 - The place of St. Paul's first missionary journey (Asia Minor - Turkey),
5 - Where St. Paul gave his first official sermon (Pisidian Antioch),
6 - Where the first woman's monastery was founded,
7 - Where many of the first Christian Churches are found,
8 - Where many of the churches in the New Testament are found,
9 - Many scholars feel the Garden of Eden may have been in Turkey,
10 - The place where many of the early prophets lived and where many events
of the Old Testament
took place.
The roads that Saint Paul and his friends walked on sharing the gospel of
Jesus Christ almost 2,000 years ago are found in modern-day Turkey.
With the celebration of the blessed birth of Jesus Christ's 2,000th
birthday, we are entering into the third millennium. Together with the
propaganda that is being set forth in the world, for 2000 years people have
lived together in peace with people from different reli-gios backgraunds
found in Anatolia. And thus "Towards 3000 Good News" has the prayer that
this reconciliation and peace will last from the year 2000 through the year
3000.
With the project called "Towards 3000", we at Good News Publishers. desire
to make known to the world the religious and cultural mosaics found in the
land of ancient Anatolia and plan to arrange religious tours to the
important centers of Christianity.
In these centers we are aiming to arrange symposiums, plays, and concerts
free to the public. With this project comes an important advance regarding
not only religious tours, but also organizing art and cultural activities in
which important artists and community leaders known in the world and Turkey
will participate.
Within this framework, these projects by Good News Publishers. are gaining
momentum through the spiritual support of Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant
churches.
Under the direction of Good News Publishing, work is underway to introduce
these Holy Lands of Turkey. It is how being done in the United States and
countries throughout Europe and Africa, with numerous organizations in
Germany, France, England, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium, Holland, Greece,
Russia, Former Soviet Republics, Korea and South Africa participating.
The purpose of this program is to actively make known how important the
history of Anato-lia is from the perspective of Christian religious tourism
while we celebrate the 2000th birthday of Jesus Christ in Anatolia, as well
as to promote the Saint Paul March in its natural places. We do this hoping
to inform foreign tourists and Turks alike about Turkish history. Supporting
the promotion and tourism of Turkey.

1999 ST. PAUL'S MARCH REPORT
St. Paul's March was held from April 30 - May 4 1999. It brought together
over 200 Turkish and foreign tourists as a means to openly share their
faith in an event sponsored by Good News Publishers in conjunction with the
Department of Tourism and the President's Office. It is the first time
that an openly evangelistic event has been given the government's stamp of
approval. In evaluating the program there was quite a bit of
disorganization but in the end it would have to be called a great success
as the Word of God was presented through personal evangelism, literature
distribution (A Towards 3000 Book containing the gospel of Luke, book of
Acts and a coupon in the back who wanted more information about the Bible
or Jesus Christ), and open air sharing. Below is a day by day catalog of
many of the events that took place.
ST. PAUL'S MARCH PROGRAM
Thursday 29 April 1999
Registration for the program at the Antalya Hotel. Dinner and rest at the
hotel.
Friday 30 April 1999
After breakfast the St. Paul's March participants arrive at the Antalya
Ataturk Cultural Center where the opening ceremonies for the St. Paul's
March program are held. After the opening talk given by Mustafa Efe of
Good News Publishers, short talks are also given by the following: Irfan
Barlas - Advisor to the President, Atilla Yasa - Governor of Antalya, Dr.
Lutfu Cakmaci - President of Suleyman Demirel University, members of the
University's faculty of religion, Turgay Ucal - Representative speaker for
the Turkish Christian Churches, Represenatives of the Orthodox and Catholic
Churches and Cemal Usak - President of the Turkey Newspapers and Writers
Foundation.
After these opening speeches everyone is taken to the Antalya Sheraton
Hotel for lunch and then to the Antalya Yacht Harbor. Everyone boards a
boat which reenacts St. Paul's entrance into the city on his 1st missionary
journey. While on the boat hymns are sung, a talk given on the Bible & the
apostle Paul and sharing from God's Word. Upon arrival on shore a symbolic
march is done with praise/worship, singing of hymns and handing out of the
Towards 3000 book to the public, until the group arrives in the center of
the city. The delegates then board the buses and return to the hotel for
dinner. In the evening delagates return to the city center to attend a
Christian music concert at the Ally Entertainment Center by the band
"Kurios".
Saturday, 1 May 1999
After breakfast the participants meet in front of the hotel and walk toward
the Antalya city limits while praying and singing praise songs and hymns
and again handing out the Towards 3000 book. After walking about one
kilometer the group boards the buses and drives to the city of Egirdir. At
the entrance of Egirdir they are met by the chief official of the district,
the mayor, other city officials and a crowd of local citizens. Hundreds of
Towards 3000 books are handed out. From there they continue on to Nis
Island. At the entrance of Nis Island the delegates get out of the buses
and walk around the island again singing hymns and worshipping while
continuing to hand out the Towards 3000 book to people. They continue the
walk to a church that is being restored on the island. Entering the church
a prayer of peace is offered. The group then returns to the exit/entrance
to the island all the while continuing to sing, pray and hand out books.
Before leaving the mayor gives gifts to the spiritual leaders participating
in the march and the participants are sent on their way by the citizens of
Egirdir. After lunch on the lakeside, travel by bus to Yalvac
(PisidianAntioch).
At the entrance of Yalvac the participants disembark from the buses. The
Mayor, head officials and people of the city meet them and welcome them.
They continue to the city center where a celebration is held where short
talks are given and there are traditional dances and music done by some of
the local people and also hymns are sung by the St. Paul's March
Participants. From here there is a walk together with the citizens of
Yalvac to the ruins of Pisidian Antioch (about 1 kilometre) where a short
tour of the ruins and new permanent tent/church has been set up for worship
(Throughout the time in Yalvac hundreds of Towards 3000 books are passed
out to the public). Return to the hotel for the evening meal. After
dinner there is an open air concert by the Kurios band in the ruins of the
Temple of Augustus in Pisidian Antioch. In spite of problems with the
sound a very lively concert is given with some songs even being sung in
Turkish (i.e. He is Lord). Byron the leader of the band shares the gospel
openly with translation. By the end of the concert it has turned into a
spontaneous time of worship with many of the local people singing along and
dancing hand in hand with many of the delegates of the march. In surveys
handed out 34 people sign up for more information about the good news and
about half of those want to meet with someone to talk more about Jesus.
Sunday, 2 May 1999
After breakfast there is a worship service at the worship tent (church).
The worship service is conducted by representatives of the Turkish
Christian Churches. Worship is led by Turkish Presbyterian Church Pastor
Turgay Ucal. After prayers, hymn singing and a ceremony by the Greek,
Armenian and Syriani Orthodox religious leaders a portion of the Book of
Acts is read and shared upon in English by General Secretary of the
American Board Rev. Alan McCain. Mustafe Efe then reads the same scripture
in Turkish and the service ends. Many of the local citizens join the
service and many are shared with afterwards and more Towards 3000 books are
given out. Many of the local people who have been in attendence on
Saturday and today are interested students from the university. After the
service there is more touring of Pisidian Antioch. Lunch is catered and
tables are set up with the public and the delagates eating together. The
delagates are taken into the city by bus where they take a tour through the
museum which is led by the director of the Yalvac Museum, Dr. Mehmet
Taslialan. The participants board the buses and embark for Isparta.
Arrival at the Isparta Grand Hotel, dinner, cocktail and bed.
Monday, 3 May 1999
After breakfast the St. Paul's March participants visit two churches that
are being restored (for worship?) and also tour the city. They continue to
hand out many Towards 3000 books. A group of the religious leaders on the
tour visit the Governor of Antalya. Turgay Ucal reads a message from the
Turkish Christian Churches. After this the group visits the Mayor of
Isparta and again Rev. Ucal reads the message from the Turkish Churches.
Return to the hotel where the rest of the participants are met and the
buses are boarded for a trip to the Sumer Carpet Factory. At the entrance
to the factory there is a welcoming ceremony with traditional Turkish folk
dancing. After a traditional Turkish Wedding Lunch speeches are given and
then there is a tour of the factory and the particiapants are shown how
Turkish carpets are made. After a fashion show of cloth and clothes made
from carpets a return to the factory garden for more traditional Turkish
snacks and a concert by the Kurios Band. Return to the hotel for dinner
and rest.
Tuesday 4 May 1999
After breakfast the buses return to Antalya and the St. Paul's March
participants depart.

United States, Canada, Singapore, South Korea, Germany, France, Great
Britain and South Africa
7. By popular demand St. Paul's March will be a yearly event. Stay tuned
for further information. Book your tickets early and get your friends to
come!!
8. We hope to arrange further outreaches and events such as this in other
areas of the country where it is appropriate (i.e. The Antioch & Tarsus
areas and the area of the 7 Churches of revelation).
Dear Friends:
I would like you to pray for the upcoming St. Paul's Walk. An unprecedented
oppoutunity of open evangelism in an area of Turkey that has had little outreach done in
hundred's of years. Please read the following and keep us in your prayers and if
there are any people who you know that are looking for the oppourtunity to openly
evangelize in a way not allowed before in this land, please pass this on to them. I
know this is short notice but we thought we would make a last ditch effort to give someone
who hasn't heard about this event the oppourtunity to possibly come.
There are many short-term events that are being planned in these days (i.e. Queen of
Heaven, Reconciliation Walk, etc.), but none that have seen combine the potential for
outreach and evangelism that this event does. Needless to say it has the added
advantage of having the government's complete backing to actually share our faith by word
and by literature.
Thank you again for keeping us in your prayers
DavidWilson

Dear Brothers and Sisters:
On March 24th and 25th I met with the Isparta Governer's Office and the rectores of Adeniz
University (Antalya) and Suleyman Demirel University (Isparta) regarding the program of
St. Paul's Walk to be held in the areas of Antalya, Egirdir, Yalvac (Pisidian Antioch) and
Isparta. The last
arrangements were made and finalized at this time.
Throughout the program everyone from the office of the president to the Department of
Tourism have extended an unprecedented degree of support to this event.
The Lord, using the the leaders of the Turkish Republic, has opened a door that could have
an unbelievable effect on the ability to share the gospel openly in Turkey for years to
come. Both in word and on paper we have official permission to share our faith
openly and without fear of
repercussions.
Though the officials have said they want to continue this event and others like it on a
annual basis, if only a small number of international tourists come it could have a
negative effect and the opportunity to continue these events in the future could be
jeopardized.
Thousands of booklets containing the Gospel of Luke and Acts of the Apostles will be
printed and openly handed out with a coupon in the back for those who are interested and
would like further information. These booklets will be given to the Turkish people
in the cities where the activities will take place.
In addition 3-4 gospel music concerts will be held every day. The authorities have
actually asked that the musicians share about their faith and the meanings behind their
songs. These concerts we be held in amphitheatres, a university and possibly a city
square.
If you cannot participate please pray that the name of the Lord Jesus will be lifted up
and the gospel be preached to an extent that hasn't been seen in these areas for hundreds
of years.
There is also still time for any who might want to be a part of this experience.
Below you will see an outline of the program and how you can sign-up. The last day
for registration is April 3, 1999.
